Releases fixes for the Latitude Throttlegate problem
A few days ago, I had mentioned about the plight of a score of Dell E series owners who were frantically calling up Dell to help them find a solution to the infamous 'Throttlegate' problem which the owners had been facing for months. Dell wasn’t paying any heed to all the negative news cropping up in the market about this, not until recently. Many a forum members had come up on the net telling the whole world about this problem and the careless and cold shoulder attitude of Dell in handling the issue. Dell tried to cover up the whole issue and even deleted some forum updates made by owners who had tried to find a solution to the problem themselves.

The problem that the owners faced was that, when their laptops warmed up a bit, their systems throttled by as much as 95% under normal speeds. Some users complained that even when cool, their laptop's CPU wouldn't reach 50% of its maximum clock.

Dell has finally woken up from its deep slumber regarding this issue. Now, Dell is up in arms against this whole issue and is in full mood to remove this problem once and for all from its laptops. Dell Latitude owners can now take a breather as their cries have finally been heard and Dell is providing a quick fix for all the problems that Dell Latitude owners were facing.

Dell has made a BIOS update for the Dell Latitude E6400 and E6500 series machines which will help users tackle the infamous 'Throttlegate' problem but, according to some latest inputs there are still some machines which are not able to operate at full speed. Dell is however optimistic about finding a fool proof solution and for that it is working openly with the users. Let’s hope this issue is resolved once in for all.

For the Studio XPS 1645 issue, owners speculate that an underrated 90W power supply is to be blamed and whosoever calls up Dell have received a 130W replacement charger that seems to rectify the problem.

Another problem that some of the Dell laptop owners were facing was a quiet noisy Seagate drive. It made a kind of 'click' noise which came from the hard disk and it came in sync with the HDD led. This clicking noise apparently made the system stop for half a second. Dell has also made a genuine effort to plug this problem and has released firmware updates for the drives which supposedly fixes the issue.

As per Dell’s update site, these are the following laptops for which updates have been released for fixing the noisy Segate disk are:

Inspiron 1320, Inspiron 1370, Inspiron 1440, Inspiron 1470, Inspiron 1545, Inspiron 1570, Inspiron 1750
Studio 1450, Studio 1457, Studio 1458, Studio 1555, Studio 1557, Studio 1745, Studio 1747
Studio XPS 1340, Studio XPS 1640, Studio XPS 1645
To install the firmware you need to burn the firmware update on a CD and boot with it. Another thing to note is that there are two different fixes; one for the models with the G-Sensor, and the other for drives without the sensor.

Not bad Dell but, next time, do prioritize issues according to when you hear about them, not when they generate negative press.
